What it can't give us

Tips arrive on a separate record from the sale, so attributed revenue excludes them. The report says so on its face.
A check opened at 7:00pm and closed at 10:40pm is matched on its close time, which can push a sale outside the window after an early-evening post.
Third-party delivery orders routed through Toast are excluded — the customer never saw the post.

For restaurants, the four-hour window is usually widened to cover the service rather than the clock. It's set at connection.

The owner grants it, not you. They approve read-only access from their own Toast account and can revoke it at any moment without going through you. You'll get an email when they do either.
